Rental Policies

Payment and Security Deposit

Rentals can be paid with American Express, Discover/NOVUS, MasterCard and VISA credit cards. A security deposit is required on all rentaWe accept payments for rentals through American Express, Discover/NOVUS, MasterCard, and VISA credit cards. Please note that a security deposit is mandatory for all rentals. The security deposit for each costume ranges from $250 to $500, which is held as a credit card pre-authorization. In the case of animal costumes, a minimum security deposit of $300 as a credit card pre-authorization is required. This deposit will be promptly refunded upon the safe return of the costume in undamaged condition. It’s important to understand that the security deposit does not reflect the actual value of the costume. We regret that we cannot accept debit cards for this purpose.ls. Transaction Tax

Certain rentals are subject to the City of Chicago Transaction Tax of 9%, which includes rentals placed in-store, those delivered within the city of Chicago, rentals picked up in-store, or any mail orders originating from within the city of Chicago. If you represent an Illinois organization and seek exemption from rental tax, kindly provide a copy of either (a) your most recent sales tax exempt letter issued by the Illinois Department of Revenue’s Legal Services Bureau, displaying your sales tax exempt number and its expiration date, or (b) your most recent transaction tax exempt letter issued by the City of Chicago, indicating your city account number and DREV number.

Discounts

Orders of 50 or more complete costumes placed simultaneously qualify for a 10% discount, provided they are ordered with a minimum lead time of three working weeks and are accompanied by completed measurement forms. It’s important to note that later additions will not qualify as part of a non-qualified order. Additionally, cancellations that reduce the number of costumes below 50 will result in the nullification of the discount. We are dedicated to providing you with the best value for your costume needs.

Rental Period

The basic rental period is 2 nights. We do not charge for any days that Broadway Costumes™ is closed. Additional days rent at the rate of 20% per day. Special weekly rates are as follows:

Courier and Shipping Services

We offer the flexibility of arranging delivery or local pick-up for your order via an external courier. Our shipping services extend throughout the United States. It’s important to keep in mind that shipments to Hawaii and Alaska cannot be accommodated through GROUND service. Please note that we do not provide international shipping for rental orders.

The shipping cost is determined based on several factors, including the actual box size, costume weight, destination, the chosen service type, and a nominal $10 handling box charge. In the event that your order is not received at least two weeks prior to our designated ship-out date, we reserve the right to utilize any necessary means to ensure your shipment reaches you as per your specified date. Your satisfaction and timely delivery are of paramount importance to us.

Alterations and Cleaning

Alterations and cleaning are normally included in the rental price. However, alterations may take up to two weekGenerally, alterations and cleaning are encompassed within the rental price. During peak seasons, please be aware that alterations may necessitate up to two weeks. Should you require a faster service, kindly note that it may incur an additional service charge. We are committed to providing you with the best possible service, and your satisfaction is our priority.s at peak seasons; faster service may require an additional service charge.

Alterations by Client

Acceptable client-performed alterations encompass tasks such as raising or lowering sleeves and hems, skillfully adjusting side seams to modify the fit of garments, shoulder adjustments, repositioning snaps, hooks, or eyes, and expertly stitching the back seams of men’s trousers.

Conversely, it’s important to note that client-performed alterations should not include any cutting, dying, spray painting, or gluing (including the use of adhesive Velcro™). Additionally, altering costumes should refrain from removing motifs, hand beading, or any other ornamentation. Lastly, avoid removing or adding buttons, trims, ruffles, feathers, or sleeves as these actions are considered unacceptable alterations. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in maintaining the quality of our costumes.

Care and Maintenance

We kindly emphasize that smoking and eating are strictly prohibited while in costume, as most permanent damage occurs as a result of these activities. In cases where smoking or eating is a necessity, we request prior notification from you at the time of rental. Furthermore, it is essential to use deodorants, while refraining from applying cologne, perfume, or after-shave, as cleaning solvents are unable to remove these scents.

For women, proper training on the appropriate use of costume trains is vital. Any tears or rips in the hems of trains resulting from improper usage will be regarded as permanent damage. It is imperative that all costumes are returned in their original condition. Non-compliance with these guidelines will result in assessed fees (please refer to Replacement Value). Your cooperation is greatly appreciated in ensuring the preservation of our costumes.

Permanent Damage

Permanent damage includes any instances of tears and rips in fabrics, burns, dying or spray painting, gluing, perspiration or other stains, as well as all other unacceptable alterations detailed above.

Late Returns

Costumes not returned on the specified date are subject to a late fee of 20% of the basic rental rate per day late plus tax.

Replacement Value

The replacement value of costumes is based on current retail value. The rental rate may be only 1% to 2% of the actual value of non-replaceable or antique items. The paid rental amount is not applicable to the replacement value.

Cancellations

In the event of an order cancellation, a cancellation fee will be imposed based on the degree of work completed on the order. The fee will never be less than 50% of the total order value. If the order is fully prepared at the time of cancellation, the charge will be equivalent to the entire value of the order. Please be aware that orders not claimed on their scheduled date will be regarded as canceled. Your understanding of these policies is greatly appreciated.
